WEEK 7

Week 7 is off to a good start so far! Yesterday was rest day from the 11 miles on Saturday, and even though I was really tired and my legs were pretty sore yesterday....I seemed to be recovered today! I've noticed that I seem to be able to recover a little easier than I used to. :)
I'm doing a 10K run on Monday next week, so I have to adjust the schedule a bit. Off we go!

Total for Week 7 - 20 miles

August 30, 2009 - rest day

August 31, 2009 - 4 miles

September 1, 2009 - rest day

September 2, 2009 - Ugh. Life happened today and I didn't get to run my scheduled 6 miles. :( Bummed. My schedule is going to be super messed up this week now, so I will need to repeat week 7 next week. Should be ok though. :( poo.

September 3, 2009 - 6 miles

September 4, 2009 - 5 miles

September 5, 2009 - 5 miles

Behind a little on the schedule, but I'll make it up next week! Next week will be my biggest numbers to date, I'm scheduled to run 26 miles next week, then will begin to taper off to get recovered for race day. 10K on Monday with my girl Laura :) Weeee!

WEEK 6 Notes

As week 6 comes to a close, I'm thinking the same thing I've thought every single Saturday night for the past 6 weeks.....I can't even imagine doing more next week! I did 24 miles this week and am on the schedule for 26 next week. I'm over 1/2 way done with my training schedule!

I did 11 miles today, no walking, 2 hours 2 minutes. Roughly 11 minute miles. Compared to others I know, that is so not fast at all....but I'm totally ok with it! My goal has always been just to FINISH. Since I'm up to 11, I'm seeing 13 actually becoming a reality! That is just BANANAS!

I thought today wouldn't be too hard since it was only 1 mile more than last Saturday's 10. Wrong. My legs were still sore this morning from the increase of miles during the week....add 11 to that and I will be seriously hurtin' in the morning!

But hey, I did it, it's done, enough complaining and now on to celebrating. With a nap. haha

WEEK 6

Considering yesterday I could hardly walk down my stairs from the 10 mile run on Saturday....I went into week 6 just a bit concerned of how in the world I would increase this week!

No more 3 miles on Monday/Thursday, those increase in week 6 to 4 miles instead. My mileage in week 6 increases by 3 miles to 24. Wish me luck!

Total for Week 6 - 24 miles!!

August 23, 2009 - rest day
Ahhhh, love rest day!

August 24, 2009 - 4 miles
No problem! Good run today, soreness from Saturday all gone!

August 25, 2009 - rest day
Doin' some Yoga today.

August 26, 2009 - 5 miles
Jogging along, thinking I should be about to 4 miles, looked at my counter and I was only at 2! OH NO! It's funny but once I get past 2.5 I feel like I could run all day, but the first 2 is difficult. That's weird.

August 27, 2009 - 4 miles

August 28, 2009 - rest day

August 29, 2009 - 11 miles!
Wow, feeling proud of 11, but my legs are so sore I can't imagine what it will be like when I try to get out of bed tomorrow!

WEEK 5

Total for week 5: 21 miles!!!!!!!!!!
That's 1/2 way to Council Grove!

August 17, 2009 - 3 miles
Whoa nelly, it was so humid today. 3 miles felt like 20. Ugh, hard day today.

August 18, 2009 - rest day

August 19, 2009 - 5 miles
Is it possible that 5 miles is now easier than 3? Today was a great run. Yay!

August 20, 2009 - rest day

August 21, 2009 - 3 miles
Tried to go faster today, knocked 2 minutes off of my normal 3 mile time. :)

August 22, 2009 - rest day

August 23, 2009 - 10 miles
No walking, no walking, no walking. Feeling pretty awesome!

NOTES FROM THE WEEK:
Week 4 was super hard. So I made the decision to repeat week 4 of training. For the normal week 5 schedule I would be on track to do 10 miles this Saturday, and I feel like I need to have a better 8 mile run before attempting 10.

Feeling a little discouraged that I have to repeat the week, but I did give myself a few extra weeks in case this might happen. So.....pressing onward!

Update....my husband convinced me that deciding ahead of time to repeat a week was LAME. He didn't say that of course....but he made a good point by asking why I would limit myself to not increasing this week when I might be able to do it. SO. Changing back to week 5, attempting 10 miles on Saturday. Yikes, I'm nervous.

Update....Man, I hate to admit when my hubs is right.....but he was....again. 10 miles today and it wasn't that bad! :) I'm so glad I didn't hold myself back by not moving to week 5! My legs ache and I'm exhausted, but I freaking DID IT.

WEEK 4

Starting week 4 of training feeling pretty confident and proud of what's been done so far, but totally nervous about Saturday's run of 8 miles. I have no idea what that will be like...other than I know I will be very happy to have it done! :) Will keep you posted!

Total for Week 4: 19 miles

August 10: 3 miles
Knocked 4 min off my fastest 3 mi, whew, it was hard today!

August 11: rest day

August 12: 5 miles
Pretty easy run today! I never thought I would say that when talking about a 5 mile run! That's weird.

August 13: 3 miles

August 14: rest day

August 15: 8 miles
Did it! It wasn't pretty, but it's done!

August 16, 2009: rest day

NOTES FROM THE WEEK:
Did my longest run of 8 miles on Saturday! I got to the rec to find it closed (I really need to plan better, they don't open until later on Saturday). So, instead of waiting, I just decided to run outside. Hey, if you're going to run a race, you should probably run outside at some point in your training! I was just waiting for the weather to become fall and cool down a bit. Anyway, it was hot and humid so it was really hard for me today. But it's over and I'm happy for that! Rest day tomorrow--whew--I'm glad!

P.S. got my first donation this week :) runforashley.blogspot.com

Our Journey to 13

I decided I would set up a place for people to read about our journey to the 1/2 marathon. Keep in mind people....I have never been a runner....still don't really consider myself a runner! This is just meant to tell whoever wants to read this about our steps to 13 miles and our highs and lows along the way. :)

I've been keeping a running log since I started, so here goes:

May 15, 2009: Started jogging to lose some pounds--walking just wasn't doing it for me. I could only jog 1 mile without stopping.

May 31, 2009: Up to 2 miles, but still only 1 without walking. Trying a walk/jog thing now to try to build some miles.

Walking/jogging continued through June, slowly trying to build up the miles. I can't believe I actually stuck with this because it took me a whole month to get to the next point....

July 5, 2009: 2 miles without walking - milestone for the week
Total for the week of July 5: 7 miles

Hey Laura! How about we register for a 1/2 marathon? Ok crazy, let's do it!

For an October marathon training had to start July 20. To even BEGIN the training schedule, you should be able to run 3 miles without stopping. I wasn't even there yet. What the heck was I thinking? Too late now, I'm registered.

July 13, 2009: 3 miles without walking - milestone for the week
Total for the week of July 13: 13 miles

I'm not fast AT ALL....but my goal for this race is to just finish! I would love to do it with no walking at all, but I have no idea if that is possible. I'm going to give it a shot though!

FIRST WEEK OF TRAINING, NO MORE WALKING!
July 20, 2009: 3 miles
July 21, 2009: rest day
July 22, 2009: 4 miles
July 23, 2009: 2 miles
July 24, 2009: rest day
July 25, 2009: 4 miles
Total for the week: 13 miles

I'm feeling this race needs a purpose other than just to accomplish this for myself. Laura and I are considering fundraising. But what should we do it for? If you made it to this blog, you know what we decided. I now have even more motivation to run, run, run!

WEEK 2
July 27, 2009: 3 miles
July 28, 2009: rest day
July 29, 2009: 3.5 miles
On the schedule to do 4 today, tough day, feeling really tired.
July 30, 2009: 1 mile
What? 1 mile? I should have done 3 today. I don't know what's going on, I just couldn't do it. I'm feeling really discouraged. :(
July 31, 2009: rest day
Thank goodness, I just want to sleep all day. So tired!
Aug 1, 2009: 5 miles YAY!
Guess I need to listen to my body when it says it needs to rest. Came out strong today, felt great! It's back!
Total for the week: 12.5 miles

Was wondering mid week last week if I should have even considered doing this. But Saturday motivated me so much! I never thought I would get to 5. I'm treating myself to new shoes. :)

WEEK 3
Aug 3, 2009: 3 miles
Aug 4, 2009: rest day
Aug 5, 2009: 4 miles
Aug 6, 2009: 3 miles
Aug 7, 2009: rest day
Aug 8, 2009: 6 miles
WOW, that felt GOOD to do 6! Slow, but I'm fine with that!
Aug 9, 2009: rest day
Total for the week: 16 miles

I didn't have the time last week to get my new shoes I promised myself at 5 miles, so I got them on Saturday before my 6 mile run. That was a great run, felt great! Maybe it was those shoes! :) Shout out to the guys at the Running Company here in Manhattan, they were so patient helping me.

I begin week 4 this week and get nervous every time I look at the schedule for Saturday. I'm scheduled for 8. Yikes. Will keep you posted!
