Getting better everyday

Had a super PT appt yesterday - got to ride the bike for 10 min, anddddddddd the elliptical too :) YAY! I actually sweat a little! Awesome! I'm walking almost completely normal and have almost complete range of motion back! Feeling so much different than I did just a few days ago. Might even try to get back to the gym next week! Weeeeeeeeee!!!

Oklahoma City 1/2 Marathon

This past weekend was the 10th Annual Oklahoma City Marathon. I went along with a bunch of girls running the 1/2, just to watch as of course I wasn't running. Hmmm....well...my thoughts are all over the place when I think back over the weekend.

You see, at one point, I was so super excited to go on this trip. Even if I wasn't running - who cares - I still get to go on a girl trip, bunk with the girls all crammed in a room - thought that would be fun times. I even made a sign to carry and brought a cow bell and megaphone. Um, yeah, those all just got left in the hotel.

I've been to several races before that I couldn't run in - actually just last weekend I helped at a local 5K. Wasn't sad at all that I couldn't run it. But man, this one hit me pretty hard. I tried so hard to put my own feelings aside, suck it up and remember why I was there - to support Angie who was running her first 1/2. But every time I thought I had it, something would happen to make me feel like crap again.

I felt like a total debbie downer because I couldn't walk around with everyone after dinner - my knee was swelling - and I know once that starts happening it all goes downhill from there unless I ice it. So I had to just go back to the hotel and hang out by myself when everyone else was out having fun. Total bummer.

Next morning, I had a new attitude - really ready to go out there and support my running friends. Woke up with a whole new outlook and was so excited for the race. Then on the way to the start.....

I couldn't walk as fast as everyone....I mean really couldn't. I kept having to ask everyone to slow down all the time. Can you guys slow down? I can't go that fast. Can you guys slow down? I can't go that fast. Embarrassing & I felt like a pansy crybaby. Ugh.

At the start line I was the coat & camera holding girl. Pfft. I said goodbye to the girls, went to the coffee shop and pouted like a baby in a huge whole milk with whip cream mocha latte. WoW I haven't had a full fat with whip in a verrrry long time. It was goooooood.

I thought many, many times that I had made a big mistake by going and just should have stayed home. I'm only 2 weeks out from surgery - not sure what I expected - but I didn't expect to feel like such a loser. Blah.

On the upside, this is really an amazing race, for an amazing cause, I got to defer my reg fees to next year, so I'll try again next go around....and Angie ran her first 1/2, setting an amazing time of 1:59, and Penny placed 3rd in her age group. That's pretty awesome. I just hope I didn't ruin it for them by being such a cupcake.

Ugh

I should be blogging everyday, it's like a never ending saga. One day I'm feeling great, next I'm beat. One day the knee is feeling sort of normal, next it's so stiff I can barely walk. This recovery thing is getting the best of me today. pfft.

I am trying so hard to get back to a normal schedule, but I'm just so worn out by mid afternoon....and worthless after I get home. It's all I can do to get anything done but sit in the chair and wish it was time for bed.

Not feeling very good today. Frustrated.

My friends are running Oklahoma City this weekend, I'm so excited for them and excited to get to go along. Also in the back of my mind is that little grouchy girl who wishes she was lacing up her pretty pink shoes on Sunday. Hope I can make it through without boo hooing like a little crybaby.

grrrrr.

Sloooooowly

After a few days and a few pain pills....I'm slowly getting better & stronger. Monday I went to my first PT appt where she took the wrap off (ahhhhhhhhh!) and I got to take a shower (ahhhhhhhhh!). Maybe the best shower ever.

It's Tuesday now, and I probably could have gone back to work at least for a little bit today, but I had already taken the full day off, so I figured I should probably just rest. I've been able to check email and stuff at home, so am keeping up on things from here, but I was still tempted to go in. Tomorrow I have a PT appt, then heading into work. I hope I can make it through the day without needing a nap! I went to Walgreen's today and that's about all I could take. Feeling a bit like a pansy.

My sleep schedule is WAY messed up now. I was up all night practically last night, which meant a nap this afternoon.....that's a bad habit forming!! The stitches seem to be the biggest pain culprit right now. The exercises are fine except the one where I have to bend....the stitches pull and OUCH.

Upside, my hubs keeps reminding me to 'bend that leg' and is so super supportive. I'm a lucky ducky. Stephanie visited today, and I then saw Jen at dance, it's so nice of my running friends to keep pushing me along. They may not even know they are doing it, but just being around those girls makes me want to do whatever I have to do to run again.

They are all getting excited to run OKC next weekend, there are 9 friends running this race. Even though I am still a bit disappointed that I can't run....even though I might get a little weepy when that gun goes off....I'm so excited for Angie who is 12 short days from experiencing her first 1/2 marathon. Almost time to break out the pink glitter for the most fabulous signs ever!

Surgery Update

All went well today, about a 15 minute surgery! The plica was without a doubt what was causing the troubles, the doctor said it was really large. So he took it out and I'm feeling pretty good today! The numbness is wearing off now though, stiffness setting in....so I think I will probably be a little stiff in the morning, but for the most part I think I'm doing pretty good so far!

Chris and Jayme have been helping so much! Getting me drinks, food, helping with the house cleaning, laundry, etc, etc. I've got such a great hubs & kiddo!

More goods from my friends! Got a visit from Angie today, that was nice to sit and chat :) April brought us a crockpot full of yummy roast and potatoes for dinner! Awesome friends!

I've got some pretty cool people

The last couple of days have been spent preparing for surgery - pre-op Dr. appt, pre-op PT appt, getting the crutches, etc. So many people have asked about the surgery, wished me luck and gave encouragement! I so appreciate each and every one.

Tonight, the night before surgery, we got a pizza & my hubs and kiddo pitched in to clean up the house, dishes, etc. so I won't be completely crazy wanting to clean the house.

My friends overwhelmed me with goodies! I came home last night to a bag of treats in my door from Stephanie, then again at work today, came home with a box of loot! Here is a combined total :) Awesome friends :)

My toenail polish is off (YIKES!), I'm ready. I've suffered through alot of miles I never thought I would run, gave birth for crying out loud, after 17 hours of labor, this should be a cake walk! Let's do this!

Surgery Week

Surgery scheduled for this Friday, April 9. I'm nervous, but excited to get this over with and get back to normal. I'm going today to pick up my crutches for my pre-op PT appt, so she can teach me how to use them. LOL That should be comical.

This week I'm going to hit the exercise hard. I feel like I need to do as much as I can since I'll be down for a few weeks! Putting some credit in the bank!

Will post more after the demerol wears off =)
